LAGUNA BEACH
Bringing the Whole Family Into Therapy: How It Works Here
Family therapy at Third Street Counseling in Laguna Beach brings everyone into one room where each voice is heard, including the quiet ones. We work with communication breakdowns, transitions, and the patterns families fall into. Sessions run about 50 minutes and begin with a free consult to match you with the right clinician.
What is family therapy and how does it differ from individual therapy?
Family therapy works with the family as a unit rather than one person in isolation. The focus is on how members interact, communicate, and respond to each other. Individual therapy can run alongside it, but family therapy addresses the system, not just the symptoms. Learn more on our family therapy page.
Who should come to a family therapy session?
That depends on the situation. Sometimes it is parents and a teen. Sometimes it is adult siblings and an aging parent. Sometimes it is a blended family navigating new roles. We help you decide who should be in the room at the free consult. For families with younger children, child therapy may run alongside family sessions.
What does a typical family session look like at Third Street Counseling?
A session runs about 50 minutes at our Laguna Beach office or by telehealth. Your clinician, such as Elaine Pike, AMFT or Michele Hall-Preston, LMFT, guides the conversation so that each person has a chance to speak and be heard. The goal is not to assign blame but to understand patterns and shift them.
How do you start family therapy?
Start with a free consult. One parent or family member reaches out through the contact form, we talk through what is going on, and we match you with the clinician who fits. There is no commitment until you decide to schedule the first session.
